Artem miniaturise New York for TV ad campaign

West London-based special effects house Artem have recreated New York in miniature to deliver the outlandish Lipton’s Brisk ‘puppets on strike’ commercial – currently airing in the USA.
A team of model makers delivered a typical New York street one-sixth of real size - complete with yellow cab, fire hydrants, fruit and vegetable stall, road signs, trashcans and traffic lights. The scene provides the opening shots for the first in a new series of Lipton Brisk ‘puppets endorsement’ commercial. But, echoing the real-life actors strike, the puppets find they have been sacked as Lipton’s human bosses decide the drink sells itself.
The commercial required a team, led by Bob Thorne, to build the street model at Artem’s workshop in Perivale, ship it out to Hollywood’s Universal Studios for one week of live action shooting, then fly the model back to London for the six-week stop-frame animation shoot.
