CCTV to install fifth SSL Aysis Air Plus console

CCTV, the Chinese state broadcaster, have ordered a fifth Aysis Air Digital broadcast console from Solid State Logic (SSL), which is to be installed in an experimental HDTV studio currently under construction.
The new console a 32-fader, 64-channel Aysis Air Plus, will be supplied with 24 mic amps, and 24 channels each of digital and analogue I/O. Installation and commissioning will be undertaken by SSL’s regional distributor, Digital Media Technology.
The broadcaster chose Aysis Air because of its proven performance in two TV production studios in Beijing and two OB trucks. The equipment has also found favour with industry professionals and Aysis Air Plus proved to be popular with CCTV operators. The new console will be installed when the new HDTV studio is completed later this year.
In 2001, the Chinese government unveiled its latest five-year plan for technological development, which formulated an ambitious strategy to create a new broadcast network that will give priority to HDTV and broadband access – utilising digital cable TV network. HDTV transmissions are expected to begin in early 2003 in Beijing, Shanghai and Shenzhen.
Tim Harrison, SSL’s Regional Manager, said: “The first test broadcast of digital HDTV in China took place in 1997 at the ISBT Symposium, when HDTV was successfully transmitted between Beijing and Ba Da Ling on The Great Wall.
"That milestone provided an important focus and led to the development of the current HDTV strategy. We are excited that CCTV have chosen to include us in its far-reaching plans.”
