Deltron Emcon launches new range of HDTV video patching products

Deltron Emcon, the UK based manufacturer behind the long established and well-respected 'Media Products' brand, is to launch a new range of HDTV patch panels at IBC 2004. in the UK and Europe have been based around the well known MUSA connector. However, for HDTV signals with their extremely high data rates, the old style connectors are not suitable. The original MUSA design dates back to the mid-1940s and was designed as a 50 Ohm connector; modern video systems are exclusively 75 Ohms. When passing composite video signals this mismatch could often be overlooked. When the move to component digital signals came, a number of manufacturers, including Media Products, made alterations to the original design of the MUSA to allow it to handle the necessary 270 Mbps data stream.
With the move to HDTV signals requiring data rates in the Gigabit range it was felt that the time had come to move away from the old connector. Exhaustive testing confirmed this and it was decided to adopt a completely new connector system. The connector chosen was designed from the ground up to be a true 75 Ohm, very wide bandwidth connector. The signal path exhibits minimal signal loss to 3GHz and still offers good performance at 5GHz.
Available as both 1U and 2U panels, with either 24-ways or 26-way per panel, the range includes U-links in a variety of colours along with various length patch cords.
Bob Davis, Managing Director of Deltron Emcon, said: "HDTV is here to stay and with the introduction of this new range we are able to help our customers make the move to true HDTV capable infrastructure."
The 'Media Products' range is available through a worldwide network of distributors and resellers.
