Gefen launch new compact HDTV Repeater

Gefen have launched a quick and easy HD extension system that eliminates the traditional sender and receiver methodology, opting instead for a single unit solution that sits between two cables.
The ex-tend-it HDTV Repeater extends HD video from the source to the extended display by regenerating the HD data and transmitting it along a DVI (digital video interface) cable. In operation, HD video travels along one DVI cable from the HD video source to the Repeater, which replicates that data and transmits it along the second cable to the extended display.
Without Gefen’s HDTV Repeater or a similar video extender, HD video can generally be transmitted along cable less then 15 feet in length using DVI or HDMI (high definition multimedia interface) connectors—hardly ideal for home theatre and presentation applications where displays are mounted away from the controlling source devices.
The HDTV Repeater provides flexibility in customising extension lengths as any two cable lengths can be used. Depending on the types of cable used and the desired resolutions, the HDTV Repeater is effective at various lengths ranging from 50 to 1640 feet. For example, the HDTV Repeater can extend video at 720p and 1080i resolutions up to 100 feet, and at 1080p up to 50 feet using DVI copper cables. However, when used with Gefen’s HDTV Extreme cables, composed of fibre optics, all HD resolutions up to 1080p can be extended up to 1640 feet.
The HDTV Repeater works with HD sources and displays equipped with DVI connectors. It is HDCP (high definition content protection) compliant and requires just one 5-volt power supply to operate (supplied).
