Warner Bros Offers Uni Scholarship

News Image
Warner Bros. has, for the second consecutive year, offered a scholarship to a University of Hertfordshire student as part of Warner Bros. Creative Talent, the company's commitment to invest in skills and training for the UK creative industries.

One of the three students to be shortlisted by academic staff from the University's School of Art and Design was Carrie Cooksley, a 22-year-old third year Film and TV student. She will now receive a scholarship, including a maintenance grant and funding towards her final project, as well as a short paid placement within the Warner Bros. group of companies, a mentor within the business and invitations to a series of master classes.

Carrie said: "Being awarded this Warner Bros. Creative Talent scholarship is a fantastic opportunity for me to learn more about the industry I want to be a part of. I still can't believe I am being mentored by Dan Dark, Senior Vice President and Managing Director of Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden – who has already given my confidence a huge boost. In the future I would love to become a television camera operator and this scholarship can help make that happen."

The Warner Bros. Creative Talent Programme, which launched in September 2013, supports the next generation of UK creative industries' talent with scholarships attached to work placements and mentoring, apprenticeships and training courses, giving young people of all backgrounds industry experience and insight across its UK film, TV, games and theatre operations.

Josh Berger, CBE, president & managing director, Warner Bros UK, Ireland & Spain, commented: "We're excited to be welcoming a second season of talented people to Warner Bros Creative Talent. Our first season has already made us very proud – through their hard work and commitment, and the opportunities and support we have been able to provide, they have gained insight and experience and are already making their way in the industry. We are confident that Season Two will be just as successful."

The multi-layered, nationwide investment encompasses scholarships at some of the country's most respected higher education institutions, including three Prince William scholars in partnership with BAFTA; apprenticeships at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden and Warner Bros. Television Production UK; trainee positions on every Warner Bros. film production in the UK; training course places for young people at inclusive theatre company, Chickenshed; work experience places for students at a school local to Warner Bros.' London HQ; and work placements on the award-winning West End musical, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
