DGP produce DVD box sets for UK market

London based DGP Digital, a division of Day Gardner Post Production (better known as DGP), have completed DVD production on two high-profile DVD box sets - ‘Angel’ season two for 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment and ‘The West Wing’ season one for Warner Home Video.
Both projects have affirmed the merits of DGP’s affiliation with California Video Center (CVC), a division of Time Warner Entertainment Company.
With the UK release date pending for ‘Angel’ season two and production of the 4:3 versions of the six disc box set already in progress in Los Angeles, it would normally have been a bad time to receive consumer pressure from the UK to produce a 16:9 box set. However, thanks to their global affiliate network CVC could immediately hand over all the PAL 16:9 encoding and authoring for the new UK version to DGP. Using their Toshiba equipment DGP were able to take the authoring script directly from CVC and rework it for the 16:9 versions, enabling a synchronous street date.
‘The West Wing’ box set appeared on Warner’s UK release schedule with a very tight production window. As the release was initially for the UK only it seemed only natural for DGP to manage the project.
As well as creating new work opportunities and raising DGP’s profile as a DVD authoring specialist, the affiliation with CVC has also given DGP exclusive access to web-based project management software called choicePROJECTS, developed by LA-based CVC affiliate ComChoice. Designed and developed solely for the management of DVD projects, this tool is being embraced by production companies around the world and DGP are able to offer it as an additional service for their entire client base.
The project management software means that time zones are no longer an obstacle as clients can observe the progress of their projects on the web at any time. They can preview, comment on and approve every creative element of the project and, with one place for all assets, it makes for simpler asset tracking and approval. All communications for every task and every project are centralised via Choice Projects, time stamped and stored for future review.
This service, coupled with DGP’s own two megabyte, permanently open line means large project files, even complete encodes, can be sent electronically anywhere in the world faster and cheaper than by courier.
