'Strictly' Comic Relief Special Filmed At Elstree

BBC Studios and Post Production has provided full facilities and support at Elstree Studios for the BBC's 'People’s Strictly for Comic Relief' show, the results of which will be announced tonight as part of Red Nose Day.

The final episode of the pre-recorded series aired this week and saw contestants compete in front of judges Len, Bruno, Darcey and guest judge Anton du Beke.

BBC Studios and Post Production upgraded its audio production gallery at the George Lucas Stage to a Studer Vista X large-scale mixing console.

Andy Tapley, Sound Supervisor at BBC Studios and Post Production, said: "This investment in the Studer Vista X desk has further strengthened our gallery offering within the George Lucas stages at Elstree and enables us to streamline the delivery of studio audio, ensuring the requirements of a complex audio set-up like The People’s Strictly for Comic Relief are met without compromise. We’re delivering a high track count within a short space of time for each dance, and we have the flexibility to rearrange a mix to meet any last minute changes."

The ballroom episode was filmed in the 15,770 sq ft George Lucas Stage 1 in front of an audience of 750 people. It comprised 10 cameras, including one 30’ MovieBirdTechnocrane, five pedestal cameras, a radio Steadicam and four other handheld/lightweight tripod cameras. An extra Hot Head camera was used to capture the giant overhead shots of the dance floor action.

Voted for by the public, The People’s Strictly for Comic Relief champion will be crowned as part of the live Red Nose Day fundraising night on BBC One on Friday 13 March.
