Sheffield Doc/Fest Director Announces Resignation

News Image
Sheffield Doc/Fest Director, Heather Croall, has announced her resignation.

Croall is to return to Australia to rejoin her family, and take up the position of CEO & Festival Director of the Adelaide Fringe Festival. Croall joined Sheffield Doc/Fest in 2006 and in that year she introduced the MeetMarket as well as Interactive at Sheffield and later a strand of archive documentaries with soundtracks performed live such as The Big Melt and From The Sea to The Land Beyond. Under her directorship the industry delegate numbers grew from 500 to over 3,200, and public audiences expanded from 2,000 to over 26,000. Croall has been Director of nine festivals at Sheffield.

She will leave Doc/Fest in mid–February and Mark Atkin will take over as Acting Director. Atkin, a familiar figure at Doc/Fest, is a Director of Crossover and until recently was the Head of the Documentary Campus Masterschool, and as such has a broad knowledge of the European factual and transmedia industries. The Doc/Fest Board will immediately commence the search for Heather Croall’s successor.
