Digital Cinema Summit to be held before NAB

NAB2002 is joining forces with the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers (SMPTE) and Digital Cinema magazine to launch the Digital Cinema Summit at the Venetian Hotel in Las Vegas, April 6-7.
The summit will offer two days of sessions designed to provide content creators and motion picture professionals with information that focuses on the motion picture industry’s transition to new digital technologies.
"Digital cinema is a natural fit. With the help of our conference partners, we expect to fully cover the technical and business challenges and opportunities for digital cinema," said NAB Vice President, Science and Technology, John Marino.
Hollywood faces a variety of challenges in its transition to digital, and the Digital Cinema Summit will address issues that include SMPTE standards, mastering, compression, conditional access (encryption), transport, audio, theatre systems, projection, business and regulatory issues and worldwide standards.
The Saturday educational sessions will be hosted by Edward Hobson, SMPTE editorial vice president, Peter Symes, SMPTE engineering vice president, and Tom Scott of EDNet and a member of SMPTE's DC28 Working Group will feature the latest information from the SMPTE DC28 committee as it continues to develop standards for Digital Cinema.
On Sunday, Brian McKernan, editor and associate publisher of Digital Cinema magazine, will host a day of discussions featuring experts in digital cinematography, post-production, delivery and exhibition. Future business models and new ways to increase cinema attendance will be discussed.
