Custom Consoles chosen for BBC Jupiter project

Broadcast furniture equipment specialist Custom Consoles has completed a major contract to supply 14 studio desks, 25 flat-panel monitor arms and three 27U high equipment racks with integral stabilisers, as part of the Jupiter project at the BBC's London Television Centre.
The Jupiter project is enabling the corporation to centralise its national, online and world news operations into a single structure optimised for efficient future expansion.
Designed in co-operation with the BBC and the Jupiter project architects, 12 of the desks are variants of Custom Consoles' electrically motorised split-level System 2, each having a 3U high 19 inch deep rear shelf. Two manually-adjustable M-Desk variants were also supplied, fitted with trapezoidal work-surfaces to suit corner locations.
The System 2 desks are of two different sizes, finished in hard-wearing off-white Formica with silver steelwork. All are located in the Mediaport area and are complete with mains distribution housings.
System 2 incorporates pushbutton-controlled electric motors allowing fast, easy and inherently safe height adjustment via a panel located just below the front surface of each desk. Four user-presets are provided to store frequently-used settings. M-Desks are similarly adjustable but have removable handles instead of electric motors.
Custom Consoles Sales Manager, Gary Fuller, said: "System 2 and M-Desk enable individual operators to vary the height of the desktop and adjacent surfaces to match their personal preferences which may change in the course of a long workshift. This greatly reduces the risk of repetitive strain injury inherent in prolonged use of fixed-height workstations. Adjustable furniture also brings benefits in hot-desking situations where desks and equipment are shared by several staff. The desks were developed in co-operation with FIRA's Ergonomics Unit to ensure full compliance with current health and safety regulations."
Founded in 1996, Custom Consoles designs and manufactures office and studio furniture combining high structural quality, ergonomic excellence and attractive appearance. Desk profiles and bases are machined to high accuracy using a computer-numeric-controlled router, then assembled and finished by skilled craftsmen.
