Northern Ireland boys head for Italian Film Festival

Northern Ireland boys Jason Kirk from Newtownards and Luke Hanley from Belfast are set to sample some Italian movie magic as they jet off to represent the UK at the prestigious Giffoni Film Festival in Italy on July 19 2003.
Selected due to their previous involvement with the CineMagic jury, Jason (14) and Luke (12) will sit on an international jury composed of 300 young teenagers.
Jason explains why he accepted the challenge: “When CineMagic offered me the opportunity to attend The Giffoni Film Festival as a jury member from the 19- 26 July 2003 I was absolutely thrilled. As the only UK representatives I realised how fortunate we had been to be selected."
The Giffoni Film Festival is unique in that it is consists entirely of four juries of young people between the ages of six and nineteen. The ‘Free to Fly’ jury that the boys will be involved in covers the Festival’s classic section and one of the key tasks will be to select a winner for the ‘Giffoni Music Concept’ section.
It is tradition for the jury members to be hosted with families from Giffoni and the surrounding area for the duration of the festival.
