Omnibus Systems help students get on air

Omnibus Systems, a leading global supplier of broadcast and media asset management solutions, has supplied the playout automation for two live channels run by students at Ravensbourne College's 'Ravensbourne On Air Reinvented'.
During the event on June 11 more than 300 students in the college's Broadcast Centre produced three channels featuring live and pre-recorded programming for the annual event that provides a platform and forum for graduates to meet with representatives from the broadcasting industry.
OmniBus is provided - free of charge - automation technology, including its Columbus module and device control, for a two channel presentation system in a purpose built presentation area.
This builds on the established relationship OmniBus shares with Ravensbourne, a National Centre of Excellence for Broadcasting that benefits from a £10 million endowment from the UK's independent television companies. For the last four years, the company has provided free training and lectures on broadcast technology to students.
OmniBus' Training & Operational Support Manager, Bea Alonso-Martinez, said: "This year, we are delighted to be investing even more resources and equipment and helping the students produce their own televisi0n station.
"Events like Ravensbourne's 'On-Air' day are extremely important because the broadcast industry is changing so quickly. The chance for delegates to receive 'hands-on' experience, as well as the opportunity to talk to manufacturers and broadcasters, is invaluable.
"And we can see the results for ourselves. We often see some of our former Ravensbourne trainees when we visit our customers' facilities. It's gratifying to know that OmniBus provided them with such a solid head start in their quest for jobs in the broadcast industry.”
OmniBus Systems provides broadcasters worldwide with comprehensive automation and asset management solutions that address every area of a television facility and deliver wide-ranging customer benefits and cost-savings across the full spectrum of operational processes.
Visiting professor of broadcasting and convergent media, Jeremy Barr, added: "As the future of broadcast transmission moves increasingly to fully automated systems, what becomes crucial for Ravensbourne is an investment in intelligent solutions with partners who can provide imaginative system support with a human face.
"Omnibus Systems meets both objectives with a quality of thinking and positive energy which impresses all of us in this centre of excellence for broadcast education and training."
Ravensbourne College is a National Centre of Excellence for Broadcasting, reflecting its status as preferred supplier of education and training to the independent television companies, its close relationship with industry clients and the excellence of the resource base (largely industry-funded) available to students.
