Technical Desking Supplies New Scottish Production Base

News Image
Technical Desking have recently supplied six Walnut Big Slab Edit desks to Left Bank Pictures for a new dedicated television studio and production base base at Cumbernauld, North Lanarkshire.
The proposed facility will be built by US cable network Starz and Sony Pictures Television, who have recently begun shooting a new TV series adaptation of sci-fi cult classic Outlander in Scotland.
The arts body Creative Scotland will help fund the project.
First Minister Alex Salmond announced the news earlier this year and extended an invitation to other film productions that Scotland is open for business.
Speaking from Mareel, a new arts hub in Shetland with a modern broadcasting unit, Mr Salmond said: "Scotland has always been a popular location for major television and movie productions, with classic films such as Chariots of Fire and Local Hero using our country's iconic scenery as a backdrop to tell some fantastic and memorable stories.
"In recent years, the reputation of Scotland as a movie and TV location has grown, with major productions now attracted not only by the stunning environment, first-class production crews and excellent facilities, but by the wholehearted support offered by the Scottish Government and its agencies.
"As a sci-fi fan, I am particularly thrilled that the time-travel drama Outlander has been brought to Scotland, supported by Creative Scotland expertise and funding to contribute to shooting and studio costs and ensure a lasting legacy from this production in Scotland in terms of skills and studio production."
Shooting began in September.
The proposed Cumbernauld facility has been shortlisted alongside a site on the Clyde waterfront, Dalmarnock, central Glasgow and Gartcosh as the potential site for the new studio.
Antony Haston MD of Technical Desking says: "We are delighted to have supplied the Edit desks for this exciting new joint Sony/Starz production of Outlander, which has received the biggest ever Scottish inward investment for Film & TV."
