Kubrick 'Foresaw Internet Revolution'

News Image
Christiane Kubrick, wife of the late filmmaker Stanley Kubrick, has said her husband foresaw the effects of the internet on cinema and film making.
Mrs Kubrick made the claim as she launched St Albans Film Festival on 8 March at a party in the city centre.
"He knew it would all change and that people would make and view films in a completely different way," she said. "You have to ‘find the film' nowadays, and that's why these festivals are such a good thing for filmmakers."

"I am thrilled to be welcoming Christiane Kubrick to open our festival, especially on International Woman's Day" said Leoni Kibbey, Film Festival Director. "The Kubrick name is legendary in the world of film, and to have the family's support of this Festival is amazing."
Stanley Kubrick created some of his most famous work in the St Albans area. His house, Childwickbury Manor, was used for many of his films, including The Shining, Full Metal Jacket and Eyes Wide Shut.
The closing film of the festival was Stanley Kubrick: A Life in Pictures, directed by Jan Harlan, Christiane's brother and one of Kubrick's producers on Clockwork Orange, Full Metal Jacket and Eyes Wide Shut.

Speaking about the significance of the St Albans Film Festival, Mr Harlan said: "This lovely city of St Albans is anaemic when it comes to film culture - and this is the city where Stanley Kubrick lived for 20 years. I applaud the efforts of Leoni and her team of organisers and will certainly take full advantage of the rich offering."

The Festival's short film competition attracted nearly 400 entries, made by filmmakers from 30 countries.
St Albans has a rich filmmaking history. One of its former residents was Arthur Melbourne-Cooper who, in 1895, developed the first British 35mm moving picture camera.
St Albans is also in close proximity to some of the best and busiest film studios in the world; Leavesden, Pinewood and Elstree.
