Sony begin e-VTR deliveries

Sony have shipped their first BKMW-E2000 to Swiss TV production centre tpc.
The company will use the kits to add e-VTR functionality to a number of MPEG IMX VTRs, to further integrate AV and IT-based programme production.
Since 2000, tpc have installed MPEG IMX within their studios, transmission centres and outside broadcast operations. Through the implementation of e-VTR, all existing tpc recordings on Betacam SP, MPEG IMX and Digital Betacam tapes can be replayed as MXF files into an IP networked environment.
Peter Biber, Assistant Head, tpc, said: "We have successfully implemented over 130 MPEG IMX VTRs through out our fully digital production centre resulting in MPEG IMX now being our major tape format, in addition to Digital Betacam, for all mainstream TV productions.
"This is ideal for our needs as we move from our existing broadcast technology to an IT-based infrastructure."
