dB Broadcast provide fast-track service for Freeview

BBC Technology recently employed the services of dB Broadcast to assist in developing the technical infrastructure for Freeview.
dB designed, pre-fabricated and installed the core system, based around Philips encoding and compression equipment. The transport stream detection and changeover system was based around their own Hawkeye range of monitoring modules. The system was put together in under eight weeks from order to completion, using a team of 15 wiring technicians and supervisors.
The 15 racks of equipment were pre-fabricated at dB's purpose-built 16,000-square-foot factory. These were fully wired, fitted with equipment and tested in two-and-a-half weeks. This enabled factory acceptance by BBC Technology to be carried out on time.
The racks were installed, cross-site wiring completed and the system tested - all on record time - in order for BBC Technology to complete final testing before going live with the technical launch, two weeks before the public launch.
"Not only did we complete the project in record time," says Tom Swan, dB's sales and marketing director, "but we also supplied well over 100 of our own Hawkeye modules, including the B043 2x1 transport stream switch module, and the B046 Transport stream monitor module."
