British Oscar Nominees Revealed

The Oscar nominations are in but unfortunately with a smaller number of British nominations than in past years.
Gary Oldman and Kenneth Branagh have both been put forward for acting acknowledgments at the Academy Awards. Oldman has been nominated for his leading role in Tailor Tinker Soldier Spy and Branagh for his supporting role in My Week With Marilyn.
British actress Janet McTeer is also up for her supporting role in the independent drama Albert Nobbs.
The late Bridget O’connor and Peter Straughan have been nominated in the best screenplay category for Tailor Tinker Solider Spy, which is based on the novel by Englishman John Le Carre.
The Shore, written and produced by Belfast film-maker Terry George, has been nominated for an Oscar. The short film has been nominated under the 'Best Short Film' category.
Behind the scenes UK-based studio AKA has been nominated for its short film A Morning Stroll, directed by Grant Orchard and produced by Sue Goffe. MPC, Framestore and Double Negative are all in the frame with Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2 nominated in the visual effects category.
Meanwhile popular front-runners War Horse and Hugo also have ties with the UK. War Horse was set and filmed in the UK and is based on a book by English author Michael Morpurgo -is up for best picture. Hugo was shot in Shepperton Studios near London and is also battling it out for best picture.
The Artist, The Descendants, Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close, The Help, Hugo, Midnight In Paris, Moneyball, The Tree Of Life and War Horse are all in the running for Best Picture at the 2012 Oscars.
