War Horse Receives Mixed Reviews

It is the day after the premiere of Steven Spielberg’s latest directorial pursuit and UK critics have split opinions over the war epic.
War Horse premiered in London last night and Royals Prince William and the Duchess of Cambridge joined stars and members of the military at the world premiere.
The film tells the story of a young man, Albert, who enlists to service in WWI after his beloved horse, Joey, is sold to the cavalry. Albert's hopeful journey takes him out of England and across Europe as the war rages on.
War horse is based on a book that was published in 1982 and later adapted for theatre.
Spielberg’s movie version has received mixed reviews with the Daily Express singing its praises – calling it a "touching saga". Meanwhile Times reviewer Kate Muir called the film "a sweeping schmaltzy epic" but added its "power is undeniable".
Not all critics however were as generous: The Independent said Spielberg's adaptation of the hit play "adds realism but loses some of the magic". While The Guardian’s Andrew Pulver accused Spielberg of directing a "lachrymose, buttery treatment" of the book and play.
War House is due to hit UK screens on Friday.
