Mode-AL Gives Systems Engineers A Quiet Life At IBC 2011

Mode-AL has developed a range of soundproofed 19" rack enclosures. The new ECS range of cabinets, to be introduced at IBC 2011 on Stand 10.F30, are attractive and unobtrusive for any public installation, and include good ventilation and cable access while achieving an impressive 36dB acoustic suppression across the audible range.
David Lees, Managing Director of Mode-AL, said: "The requirement for racked equipment in noise-sensitive areas has been around a long time, not just in broadcast but in recording studios, Telepresence and boardrooms and conference centres. We have been delivering front of house rack cabinets for years, and now in response to requests from many customers we have added a high degree of noise isolation."
The cabinets, which are available in a choice of finishes to suit the décor of the installation, feature smoked glass doors front and rear, which are lockable and close to air-tight gaskets to prevent sound spill. The side panels are lined with a high density polyurethane foam to provide excellent sound absorption and a high mass barrier to extend the attenuation down to lower frequency ranges.
Cable gaskets are fitted with Poron memory foam to maintain the acoustic integrity. The cabinet is fitted with two temperature controlled variable speed fans with an acoustically ducted airflow system to ensure the equipment remains at its optimum operating conditions without adding to the noise floor. There is a dust filter on the input side of the airflow, which can be easily removed from the front door of the cabinet for cleaning.
David Lees added: "We have provided many soundproof enclosures for many different applications over the last ten years, on an ad hoc basis. Now we have brought all that experience together in the new ECS cabinet range, enabling our users to select the product from the page rather than put together a custom design from individual components. We are confident that we will be helping system integrators towards a quieter life."
