Altered Images Avid Unity Installation For Monkey Life

News Image
A leading reseller of technology for the television production and corporate communications markets, Altered Imaged, has announced the installation of an Avid Unity MediaNetwork system at Primate Planet Productions' facility based at Monkey World in Dorset.
A primate rescue centre, Monkey World is home to over 240 rescued and rehabilitated monkeys and apes from 16 different species.
Producers of the much-loved Monkey Life series, Primate Planet installed the Avid Unity to store all the media from the programme's series five, now in production, which was shot in HD. The Primate Planet facility requires a large storage system to facilitate its two Avid edit suites and to enable editors to share material and work more efficiently.
Avid Unity systems are designed specifically for storing, accessing and sharing media in collaborative workgroup environments. The Unity was installed by Altered Images and was up and running within five days.
Each series of Monkey Life documents the lives of the primates at Monkey World over the course of a year. It covers a multitude of stories from national and international rescues, re-homing at the centre, rehabilitation and then integration with the other primates into groups of their own kind. The series has been running since 2007 and is extremely popular around the world. It's shown in over 145 countries globally on Animal Planet (Discovery) Nat Geo WILD (National Geographic Channels) and on Channel Five in the UK.
Louise McCance-Price, MD, Primate Planet Productions, explained: "Altered Images came very highly recommended and we were amazed at how quickly they were able to install the new system. Over the last five years we have collected huge amounts of important material that documents the lives of these amazing primates and the work of Monkey World. Series five has been digitised into the Unity and can easily be repurposed for future series and other outlets, significantly improvising our workflow."
