Audio Issues Make Waves At BVE 2011

As a crucial element of broadcast production, whether for radio, television, film or multimedia, audio matters are once again high on the agenda at Broadcast Video Expo 2011, between February 15 - 17, 2011.
In addition, BVE 2011 welcomes several new audio exhibitors include Bel Digital Audio, LSB Technologies and Clear-Com.
This year's seminar programme in The Audio Room examines a wide variety of issues from content to technology. Tuesday is Radio Day, which will feature presentations on how to create compelling radio dramas and documentaries, how radio can appeal to different age groups, and celebrating radio talent in the North of England.
On Wednesday and Thursday, discussions will cover technical topics including as compression, audio over IP and loudness measurement, and more practical sessions on digital media workflows, monitoring and trouble shooting.
On the show floor audio enthusiasts can meet with the key manufacturers to find out about the latest products, technologies and services available. Audio exhibitors include the following:
Prism Sound (Stand I52) will be showing its recently released SADiE 6, a new software-only version of its world-famous recording and editing system, as well as the full range of SADiE hardware-based systems including the popular LRX2 Location Recorder. It will also demonstrate the Orpheus Firewire audio interface which is used in recording, mixing, post-production, mastering, archiving and broadcast applications where the highest audio fidelity is a necessity.
Sonifex (Stand H50) will show an array of new products, including Redbox 3G/HD/SD embedders and de-embedders and Dolby Digital decoders/encoders together with SignalLED studio signs.
HHB (Stand C40) will be focusing on technologies such as flash recorders and file-based audio, MADI, loudness metering and correction, audio over IP, surround sound monitoring, 3G-SDI interfacing and radio microphones. Among the new products on display will be Avid's Pro Tools 9 Native, Dolby's DP568 Reference Decoder, the Lynx MADI Card, Soundfield's UPM1 Stereo-to-5.1 Upmixer, TV Electronic's TM9 Loudness Radar and Wohler's AMP2-E16V-3G Audio Monitoring Unit.
Glensound Electronics (F46) will launch the Call Classic at BVE, a solution that meets the needs of smaller broadcasters that requires a small scale phone system for listener phone-in programmes or OB sports/events programme that require reporters to call in via ISDN. Call Classic is a four line phone-in system, with options of a POTS digital hybrid or an ISDN G711/G722 codec for each of the four caller lines. System control of the Call Classic is digital, allowing intelligent management and configuration of the system.
SSL (Stand F1), exhibiting for the first time at BVE, will be showing its C10 HD compact digital broadcast console and the Integration I/O range, a collection of primarily MADI based I/O and routing 'glue' products for Systems Integrators. On the video side, SSL will also demonstrate its Gravity Media Asset Management system.
