Cincinnati's Red Echo Post Adds Colour Grading Service Via FilmLight's Baselight
Cincinnati-based post house Red Echo Post has acquired a Baselight colour grading system from FilmLight to serve as the centrepiece of its newly-formed Rage & Color division.
In adding colour grading via Baselight to its existing editorial, graphics, animation and sound services, Red Echo Post will be able to offer its clients a one-stop post-production solution for commercials and long-form media in a seamless, file-based workflow.
Red Echo Post, which has posted commercials for accounts including Long John Silver's, Scotts EZ Seed and Microsoft Xbox 360, chose to add high-end colour grading to its mix of services in response to requests from clients.
"We have been receiving more requests to perform colour grading during editorial sessions, said Red Echo Post Senior Editor Tate Webb, who will now transition into the role of Senior Colourist. "While our editorial systems have colour correction capabilities, they are limited. Baselight gives is a broader toolset and the ability to deliver a higher quality product to our clients. It will also help us to attract more national and independent film work."
Webb added that Baselight integrates seamlessly with the company's editorial systems and visual effects workstations. Baselight's ability to work natively with RED R3D files and other digitally acquired media is also a significant advantage as the majority of the company's clients now shoot digitally.
Additionally, Webb noted, the intuitive design of Baselight's software has a lot of appeal for someone like him with a background in editing and visual effects. He explained: "FilmLight has been very progressive in its approach to colour grading. The way Baselight handles layering, mattes and timelines is very similar to what I am used to. It makes for a very easy transition."
