A London-based international film group, has announced that it has sold Australian box office hit, Beneath Hill 60, to leading UK distributor Momentum Pictures.
Beneath Hill 60 – released in Australia by Paramount Pictures this month has been hugely successful during its first two weeks at the box office, grossing AUD $1.7 million to date.
The Film was also the only top ten entry to increase box office takings over the Anzac Day long weekend - the Australian and New Zealand national day of remembrance. Beneath Hill 60s box office increased by 42% while the other Top Ten movies dropped by percentages ranging from 14% to 39%. The movie, directed by Jeremy Hartley Sims and starring Brendan Cowell, tells the story of what became known as one of the most successful campaigns of The Great War.
This true story follows a small platoon of Australian miners – all untrained soldiers – as they prepare to ignite the largest amount of explosives ever collected in one place under German lines in an attempt to end the War.
Intandem acquired the worldwide sales rights to Beneath Hill 60 last May and are delighted to have sold the UK distribution rights to Momentum.
As well as successfully selling the UK distribution rights, Intandem is pleased to announce that the film will have its World Premiere Market Screenings at this year’s Cannes Film Festival on the 15th and 16th May.
Commenting on the success of the Film in Australia, Paramount Pictures Australia Managing Director Mike Selwyn said: "We are delighted at the way that Beneath Hill 60 seems to be reaching out to all the different audiences across Australia.
"The film really seems to have something for everyone and is playing equally well in arthouses, country and provincial locations and big multiplexes and we are very hopeful that this beautifully made Australian film can carry on for a long time."
Intandem's Chief Executive Officer, Gary Smith added: "The UK Market is one of the hardest to crack for any movie and we are delighted that a company of the calibre and experience of Momentum has seen the potential of Beneath Hill 60.
"We are excited to be working with them to maximise its revenues in the UK market."
