GTC Awards Gets Executive Boost

TV cameramen will tonight hear first-hand about just what a leading television executive thinks about programme making.
The Chief Creative Officer of BBC Vision Production, Patrick Younge, is to speak at the Guild of Television Journalists (GTC) Awards tonight.
A Guild spokeswoman said yesterday: "The GTC Awards 2010 team is delighted that he has agreed to speak at the GTC Awards at the BFI Southbank.
"Patrick, who is responsible for the in-house programme-making teams that have created some of the BBC's best known hit shows such as Strictly Come Dancing, Top Gear, Antiques Roadshow, EastEnders, Dragons' Den, Watchdog, Nature's Great Events and The One Show, will talk about the direction and focus of future BBC TV productions."
She said that this news provides the final element in a day that is already packed with interest: "The main highlight of the day will be the Awards presentation itself - now fully booked -
"This celebratory evening will kick off with a drinks reception for all attendees, before moving into NFT3 for an introduction from GTC President Dick Hibberd, a light-hearted spot from TV presenter Nick Knowles as well as the address by Patrick Younge, before GTC Awards 2010 for camerawork are presented to this year's worthy winners," she said.
Other attractions in the afternoon include the long-awaited ARRI Alexa, which will be on the premises - visit the ARRI stand to see this brand new camera format.
Owen Roberts will be demonstrating Steadicam Pilot for lightweight cameras throughout the afternoon and cameramen will be able to try out the rig for themselves and the GTC is also to mark the centenary of long-term sponsor company Vinten with a special display commemorating 100 fantastic years of support for cameras and cameramen.
