Software-only encryption solution introduced by CyphaWare
British Company CyphaWare has developed what is believed to be the world's first software-only complete encryption solution specifically for MPEG/MP digital media for protecting valuable or otherwise sensitive information.
The new product, CyphaLock, can encrypt data to 256-bit Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) as standard. According to the US National Institute for Standards and Technology (NIST), AES has a predicted life-span of 20 years.
Capable of encrypting digital data of all types, CyphaLock is of particular value to media companies seeking to protect their digital video and audio assets. Critically, it can render a complete MPEG 1, 2, 4 or MP3 file secure while retaining the original encoding format. This enables companies using these formats to make full use of embedded data streams, important when files are to be played in current PC CD or DVD players or the new generation of set-top boxes and critical when the files contain
interactive video.
