See Streambox Live Service At IBC

Streambox has announced that it will demonstrate Streambox Live, an innovative IP-based contribution service, at its IBC 2009 stand: 7.J40.
The solution enables remote reporters and citizen reporters to upload compressed live video streams to broadcast studios through internet-based Streambox Live Data Centres.
The Streambox Live service interoperates seamlessly with Streambox's industry-leading platform of SD and HD broadcast-quality video encoders and decoders, as well as its complete line of broadcast and distribution servers.
Streambox's new Live Service enables broadcasters to deploy free encoding software to remote reporters and citizen reporters and pay only for videos that are decoded. The service enables broadcasters to cost-effectively aggregate large volumes of live and file-based videos.
Streambox Live encoders will be made available through Streambox's web site - www.streambox.com - at no charge. Broadcasters will be charged a small fee for downloading content on demand from Streambox Live Data Centres.
Based on Streambox's award-winning ACT-L3 technology, the Streambox Live service enables 512 kbps video feeds for broadcast-quality SD video, supporting automated and ad hoc live video routing for playout on Streambox decoders and Streambox media players. In addition, the Streambox Live Service includes free, easy-to-use and consumer-friendly mobile encoding software for mobile phones and Microsoft Windows and Apple Macintosh computers.
All incoming live videos and archived videos contain thumbnail views and associated metadata for routing or downloading, with metadata support provided for Slug, Broadcast Network, Location and Reporter. The service's digital rights management features enable contributors and broadcasters to set video rights for control and video access for live and archived video. Servers for the Streambox Live service reside in Streambox Live Data Centres on a high-bandwidth internet backbone, which hosts all live and archived video. The data centres provide 24/7 access and backup as well as account and file-level security.
Bob Hildeman, Chairman of Streambox, said: "The Streambox Live service helps broadcasters aggregate more video from reporters, ad hoc contributors and citizen reporters while paying only for the content they decode.
"This innovative and easy-to-use service will enable broadcasters to access and air more live and archived video faster and at a lower cost."
The Streambox Live service is based on Streambox's proprietary ACT-L3 video encoding technologies, with enable high-quality SD and HD video signals to be compressed and streamed at low bandwidth. This technology combined with Streambox's Forward Error Correction (FEC), automated bandwidth negotiation and broadcast-quality reliability has enabled Streambox to become the leading IP-based newsgathering platform.
