EVS Equips TV2 In Norway For Its Studio Productions

EVS Broadcast Equipment, a leader in instant tapeless technology, has become an integral part of the production of two TV shows for TV 2, the largest commercial television station in Norway.
Golden Goal, a comedic talk show about sports, was developed by Rubicon TV (one of Norway's leading production companies) and produced in TV 2's Oslo studio.
To record, edit, store and playback Golden Goal, TV 2 has chosen to implement a solution that includes a HD Ready XT(2) production server for ingest and playout, MulticamLSM software for clipping and on-the-fly editing, an XF(2) removable storage server with XFile software for archiving ISO cameras and transferring clips, and a Final Cut Pro editing station for final edits.
Each week, hosts Johan Golden and Henrik Elvestad interview a high-profile guest. The interview is recorded on the XT(2) server and subsequently edited with Final Cut Pro on a MacBook. Once the interview is complete, the show is recorded "live to tape" with 4 ISO cameras on the XT(2).
Rough cut edits are created using MulticamLSM and transferred on the XF(2) for editing on the Final Cut Pro. The interview and the different sequences of the program are then restored from the Final Cut Pro on the XT(2) and assembled with MulticamLSM prior to playout on TV 2 Zebra. A cut down version is also broadcasted on TV 2.
The Man Show, a comedy show that consists of a variety of pre-recorded comedy sketches and live in-studio events, is also recorded in TV 2's Oslo studio. In order to record, edit and playout the show, TV 2 relies on the XT(2) production server and the XF(2) storage server, which are fully integrated with the studio's own post-production equipment running Avid Interplay.
To record The Man Show, three cameras and one director's cut are recorded on the XT(2) and, using ISO streaming with the XF(2) and the Avid Interplay Transfer engine, all four angles are instantly transferred to an Avid Unity environment, where they are immediately available for editing. In this way, post-production of the show can start the instant it is recorded.
In both cases, the XT(2) server is highly reliable and user-friendly, with instant recording and playback capabilities. In addition, native integration with both Avid and Apple's Final Cut Pro make the XT(2), XF(2) and other EVS tools essential for working with post-production tools.
Ole Johan Skogheim, Systems Manager for TV 2, said: "The XT(2) safely eliminates all the VTRs previously used for ISO-recordings. The EVS-Avid integration gives us several benefits. It enables us to cut down the time between recording and on-air time, especially for in-house productions. Additionally, the EVS XT(2) and the XF(2) servers give us flexibility, as they enable us to work with external production companies, such as Rubicon for which the integration with post-production equipment is facilitated, as the workflow is available for both Final Cut Pro and Avid."
