LipSync Post Complete Post-Production On Channel 4's 'Red Riding'

LipSync Post has completed the post-production on Channel 4's forthcoming trilogy of interlinking films 'Red Riding', based on the best-selling novels by David Peace.
The Soho-based post house's production division has also been one of the financiers of the project, which has been produced by Revolution Films.
The three films, entitled '1974', '1980' and '1983', will each have different styles as three directors individualise their part whilst shooting on a range of formats; '1974' on 16mm, '1980' on 35mm and '1983' on RED. LipSync has completed the grade, audio, titles and VFX work on all three films.
Working on three large-scale jobs back to back was a big challenge but LipSync's in-house talent, flexibility and scaleable storage capacity enabled the production team to create three great films.
LipSync's Senior Colourists Stuart Fyvie and Lee Clappison were enthused by the opportunity that 'Red Riding' brought to LipSync. Clappison, who worked on '1983', found grading with RED technology for the first time on the Trilogy to be a great experience. Working closely with the DPs and Directors enabled Lee to learn a lot about this new technology whilst helping to create their vision; the brief was to give a filmic look with an emphasis on contrast and atmosphere, but keep it looking as realistic as possible. The grades for all three films were completed using Quantel Pablo.
LipSync assembled three sound teams, headed by Paul Cotterell to complete the audio edit, sound mix and ADR on the trilogy. Mixing on DFC and using Pro Tools to edit, sound mix and ADR on the trilogy. Mixing on DFC and using Pro Tools to edit, Paul and Steve Haynes were able to create just the right atmospheres, with music and authentic sound FX, to assist in the audience becoming immersed in to the individual films. The company also completed extensive VFX work and the stirring title sequences.
Alasdair MacCuish, MD of LipSync, commented: "Being involved with 'Red Riding' was a great experience for use from both the creative post and film financing perspectives. Reading Tony Grisoni's scripts, which were absolutely outstanding and knowing the people involved made this one of the easiest decisions to invest. From the post side, we knew it would be a challenging project but our flexibility and the complete service that people have come to expect from us have helped Channel 4 and Revolution Films bring this to the screen."
The three films will be aired chronologically on Channel 4 on March 5, 12 and 19, 2009 at 9pm.
