TF1 France Adds Twin Solid State Logic C100 HD-S Production Consoles

Solid State Logic (SSL) has announced the sale of two C100 HD-S digital broadcast consoles, together with a full-scale SSL "MORSE" system to TF1, France's largest private television broadcaster.
The C100 HD-S broadcast audio consoles will be incorporated into TF1's tapeless production centre at its headquarters in Boulogne-Billancourt, near Paris.
TF1 also decided to take advantage of the benefits of SSL's popular "Modular Resource Sharing Engine" (MORSE) which provides an extremely reliable, cost-effective and scalable system for audio I/O sharing and managing related control data between multiple studio floors and control rooms within multi-studio broadcast facilities.
The TF1 installation will feature seven MORSE stageboxes fitted with numerous I/Os, including 54 SDI HD cards, and a MORSE router configured with up to 38 MADI ports.
In addition to audio production duties for programming designed for delivery over terrestrial, satellite, cable and IPTV platforms, there is another reason for TF1 to opt for the best possible audio processing.
The October 2008 launch of the French "Television Numerique Terrestre HD" (TNT HD) platform means that regional viewers with compatible televisions are now able to enjoy terrestrial HD broadcasts; but broadcasters remain fully aware that HD images alone are not enough and that high-quality audio is now a "must-have" to complete the media experience.
TF1's Production Manager, Hervé Pavard, said: "TF1 is one of the first major terrestrial HD broadcasters on the air in Europe and the Solid State Logic consoles are ideal for delivering the quality of sound, both stereo and 5.1, that HD viewers now expect. As the number of our HD broadcasts continue to increase over the coming years, so too will our need to ensure that they are managed with the best possible sound quality.
"One of the numerous advantages of SSL consoles is that their control surfaces are familiar and uncluttered, even when handling complex 5.1 set ups. We've also been impressed by the high degree of security, with the benefits of a fully redundant architecture and fully redundant processors for both the SSL consoles and the SSL MORSE resource sharing system."
Philippe Guerinet, Solid State Logic Director of International Sales, added: "TF1 has a long and respected tradition of delivering high quality news and entertainment and these new consoles are in keeping with that commitment to provide and retain the best possible experience in audio and video across multiple facilities and delivery platforms."
The new SSL system is scheduled for January 2009 delivery.
