FOR-A At Broadcast Video Expo, London

FOR-A UK is featuring four new multi-format broadcast television production products at the Broadcast Video Expo (BVE) (Stand H50) at London's Earls Court between February 17-19.
The HVS-300HS is a compact, cost-effective 1 M/E multi-format vision mixer. Its 1RU mainframe makes it an ideal solution for flypacks, remote productions as well as OBs and studios - where space is at a premium but features and performance are a must.
As a live/production video switcher, it packs a robust array of features and options for a wide variety of applications. There is support for all common formats: 1080/60i, 59.94i, 50i, 24PsF, 23.98PsF, 720/60p, 59.94p, 50p, 525/60 (NTSC), 625/50 (PAL). Internal processing is broadcast quality 10-bit 4:2:2:4.
The mainframe includes easy-to-use front-panel buttons for all standard mixer operations including cuts, wipes, fades and keys. Control parameters are displayed on a preview output for ease of operation and users can install control software to run the switcher from a PC. The compact 2RU external panel adds more functions.
As standard there are 4 x HD/SD-SDI inputs and outputs (PGM x 2, AUX x 2). Each input has independent process control as well as a frame synchroniser and re-sizing engine to simultaneously accept non-synchronised SD and HD sources. UUp to 12 inputs and 8 outputs can be supplied to suit a wide range of applications; HD/SD-SDI, DVI, HD/SD analogue component and composite inputs and HD/SD analogue component and composite, DVI-I, HDMI and HDV outputs.
The HVS-300HS also features a 16-split multiviewer as standard (4/10/16 multiview, tally, title, etc...), two channels of stills store, two channels of picture-in-picture, a keyer with chroma key and a DSK. Each keyer has its own 2D DVE and various 2D and 3D DVE transitions are possible.
The HVS-300HS mixer series is available early in 2009.
MBP-100CK HD/SD is a compact standalone chroma keyer providing many automated features that simplify operation to quickly produce accurate results. It is equipped with FOR-A's unique chroma key processing algorithm and includes 4:4:4:4 internal processing, eight-frame internal video delay lines, two independent, multi-layering downstream keyers and an internal stills store, making the MBP-100CK ideal for on-air graphic systems such as virtual studios.
Auto Chroma Key allows a novice operator to produce clean chroma key effects. It also expertly handles green and blue-screen keying challenges such as skin tones, wardrobe and hair colour variations and edge effects such as colour spill and lens chromatic aberration.
Edge Colour Replacement and high performance filtering ensures image quality even when keying difficult subjects. It eliminates the need to 'matte shrink' or to cut edge colour artefacts so the keyed images naturally fit the background. Special filtering eliminates flickering or noise caused by lighting conditions that can appear on chroma key edges or in shadows - saving time and achieving uniform results.
Remote control is available through the MBP-12RU Remote Control Unit, featuring a touch panel and button switches. MBP-12GUI control software offers remote control from a PC.
The MPB-100VW video writer features a Telestrator that responds to a finger's touch so users can draw and point with a finger through an optional touch panel over HD/SD-SDI video in real-time. It has pre-programmed graphic shapes for ease of use, but can also process straight line and free-hand drawings. The video writer creates an array of lines that vary in colour, edge width and thickness. Drawn objects can be moved, copied or deleted as needed during demonstrations.
The MBP-100SX baseband converter, a part of FOR-A's MediaConcierge media management systems program, offers two-way conversion between MXF (XDCAM) files and HD/SD-SDI with up to eight embedded audio channels. The addition of flash memory creates a playback environment with high redundancy. Packaged in 1RU, it supports transfers via Ethernet and USB making it easy to transfer data with devices such as P2 (DVCPRO). It also supports VTR commands using RS-422, can be used as an I/O client in a video server system and is equipped with SNMP monitoring.
The FOR-A BVE stand also features a range of its established video products that offer top-of-the-range conversion and processing capabilities.
