OmniTek Introduce 3Gb/s Eye Pattern

Innovative test and measurement manufacturer Omnitek have announced the introduction of a new 3Gb/s SDI physical layer analysis package for the OTM 1000 waveform monitor and OTR 1003 signal generator and analyser system.
The OmniTek 3Gb/s EYE package is the first SDI physical layer analysis system to be able to measure and display accurate, high resolution eye diagrams plus all the standard bitstream jitter characteristics for SDI signals at 270Mb/s, 1.485Gb/s and 2.97Gb/s.
Mark Davies, R&D Manager at OmniTek, said: "Our new 3Gb/s EYE package is a first for the broadcast industry and is the result of an intensive two-year research and development programme. We have chosen the very latest aerospace specification sampling devices to provide the EYE system with an analog bandwidth of better than 12GHz, which is essential for accurate measurement and display of the rise and fall times of the SDI bitstream."
The new OmniTek physical layer analysis package is available in two versions: PHY for measurement of signal amplitudes and jitter characteristics and EYE for display of the actual SDI bitstream eye pattern in addition to measurement of all the jigger parameters. These options are available in SD only, SD & HD or SD, HD and 3Gb/s together.
Davies continued: "We believe our physical layer analysis package is the most advanced system available today. When installed in the revolutionary new OTM 100 waveform monitor, this provides all the equipment a broadcast engineer needs for signal generation and analysis of every single SDI video format."
The EYE and PHY options are available on the new OTM 1000 waveform monitor, which is a traditional half-rack enclosure with built-in display screen and control panel and also the OTR 1003 signal generator and analyser system in a 3RU rackmount chassis. These new products from OmniTek have been designed from the start to be 3Gb/s compatible and to support all single and dual link SDI video formats at 270Mb/s, 1.485Gb/s and 2.97Gb/s.
Davies said: "OmniTek is one of the first companies to offer complete signal generation and analysis support for the new 3Gb/s SDI formats and this affirms our position as the leading innovator in professional video test and measurement."
The 3Gb/s SDI formats as specified in SMPTE 424M and 425M provide broadcasters with the capability to transfer 1080p60 video signals in real-time over a single 75ohm coax cable.
In addition, the 3Gb/s standards specify a wide range of other capabilities including sending two simultaneous independent HD signals over a single cable or an HD dual-link signal in any of the recognised formats.
