Red Vision invests in flame HD

In line with increased client demand for HD projects, Red Vision, the graphics-oriented post company, have invested in a Discreet flame HD visual effects compositor.
The system was sold and will be supported by Soho business services company Red Lorry Yellow Lorry.
While traditionally a broadcast specialist, Red Vision have recently started to attract an increasing amount of film projects that require the performance of a specialist HD effects and finishing tool. Driven by talented in-house compositors, Ben Haworth and Andy Goldie, flame will initially be used for Red Vision’s current heavy production throughput of broadcast CG work.
Red Vision have also been approached to work on a number of forthcoming feature films -including ‘Touching the Void’ and ‘The Last Unicorn’ - for which the HD Flame will be an essential tool.
The system will integrate with Red Vision’s existing animation and graphics tools that include 3ds max, Maya and Hal.
Director Dave Mousley explained the reasons for taking the Discreet route: “We looked at a number of options but ultimately chose flame as it is industry proven and the industry standard. Its openness also appealed – not only in terms of its integration with other Discreet systems and NT platforms but also the fact that we can write custom-built sparks for it. Having a flame in town will also help to attract more high-end projects to the Manchester production and post community.”
