Volicon Introduces The Producer

Volicon, a leading provider of media montioring, recording and archiving solutions, has introduced the Producer - a new content repurpsoing extension to Volicon's award-winning Observer desktop monitoring and recording system.
The Producer gives broadcasters a cost-effective means of easily creating and monitoring new assets from valuable content by capturing and repurposing it in a variety of industry formats for online distribution.
The content can then be made available for distribution and sale to third parties, such as other news organisations or web sites.
Julius Perl, Vice President of Marketing at Volicon, said: "The rapid growth of internet advertising has come at the expense of broadcasters, who have seen steady erosion in their traditional revenues as advertisers flock to the internet's vast new audiences and lower costs.
"We designed the Producer to make it easy for our customers to turn their most valuable assets, their content, into a vital new revenue stream. And, by repurposing and streaming content to their web sites, broadcasters can even develop an online advertising business of their own."
The Volicon Observer enables users to capture, search and retrieve, analyse and log video from an unlimited number of live and pre-recorded channels, right from their own desktops. The Producer gives operators an easy-to-use platform for browsing content that has been recorded by the Observer, and then searching for and retrieving the desired video segment down to the individual frame level.
The Producer then transcodes the segment into one of several industry-standard online formats and automatically provides the output to either DVD, Web/FTP site, or via email to the third party.
The Producer consists of three modules. The acquisition module retrieves components of a broadcast and assembles them into a complete programme, suitable for online publishing.
The programme might include such items as the station logo, new segments and advertising that has been specifically formatted and packaged for the Web.
The Transcoder module takes the content in its original broadcast format and transcodes it into the required format for Web publishing, such as Adobe Flash, QuickTime or RealPlayer.
Finally, the Publishing module automates the process of delivering the transcoded content to the web sites specified by the broadcaster's client.
Perl said: "At Volicon, the value we offer our customers can be summed up in three words: monitor, manage and monetise. With the Observer, we have set the standard for broadcasters to monitor and manage their content in the most efficient and cost-effective manner possible - and now, with the Producer, we are providing the third element.
"Working in tandem, the Observer and the Producer offer an end-to-end solution for broadcasters to build profitability through enhanced efficiencies, cost savings and new sources of revenue. As an added bonus, broadcasters can view online advertising as an opportunity, rather than a competitor."
