Tern Signs First Look Deal With BBC WorldWide

Tern Television has extended its relationship with BBC Worldwide by securing a three year first look deal.
The deal follows a successful year for Tern, with strong sales of its key programmes, in particular UKTV commissions Spa of Embarrassing Illnesses and How to Find a Husband.
David Strachan, Managing Director, Tern Television, said: “This is the first time we have signed an exclusive deal with a distributor. BBC Worldwide have done a really good job for us in exploiting the success of our UK series in the international market and this deal allows us both of us to develop a closer relationship and build on success.”
Mark Reynolds, Director of Factual for BBCW Indie Unit added: “Tern are making their mark in British television and it is clear their profile and output are growing rapidly. Their slate of programmes and commissions is impressively diverse and we look forward to building its value further through our international sales network.”
Spa of Embarrassing Illnesses has been sold to 14 international territories, including New Zealand, Spain, Canada, the Netherlands and Thailand, and has been shown across Scandinavia, Eastern Europe and the Middle East on BBC Prime.
Established in Aberdeen, Tern has expanded to open offices in Glasgow, Belfast, and is an influential player in encouraging growth in the Nations and Regions.
New commissions in 2007 included the BBC hit Great British Journeys, the 8x60 series with Nicholas Crane which builds on the success of Crane’s previous successful series, Map Man and Coast; KNTV Philosophy, a 10x30 minute animated comedy clip show for Channel 4 and series three of Spa of Embarrassing Illnesses for UKTV.
