White Mark Creates Studio Complex For The Voice And Music Company

Acoustic and technical design company White Mark has created a spacious five-studio complex in London’s Soho Square for audio post specialists The Voice And Music Company.
Established 15 years ago by the composition team of Kim Goody and Alan Coates, The Voice And Music Company handles composition, sound design and audio post production for a variety of film and television clients including Disney, Chapman Entertainment, the BBC, Novel Entertainment and Chorian.
When the lease on its previous facility expired, The Voice And Music Company identified new premises in Soho Square and called in White Mark to transform the space into a state-of-the-art studio complex. This now houses two 5.1 dubbing theatres, two stereo suites and a music composition studio.
“The move to Soho Square gave us the opportunity to expand and modernise our technical facilities,” Alan Coates said. “We spoke to a number of studio design companies but chose White Mark on the basis of their extensive experience, particularly within Soho where they have built over 100 audio post facilities. They worked closely with our chief engineer Chris Morris, and Tom Livsey, who recently joined us from The Bridge, to create a fluid and flexible facility where projects can be easily moved from one studio to another. We welcomed their design input and their attention to detail, which have helped us create a comfortable environment for both clients and staff.”
David Bell, Managing Director of White Mark, added: “This project, like many others, posed a number of design challenges. Principal amongst them was the need to match the high level of interior design that the building demands with the delivery of the creative environment needed by Alan, Kim and the team. We are very proud of the result which is a visually striking facility that feels very comfortable to be in and performs to the highest standards of acoustic accuracy.”
The Voice And Music Company operates on a Pro Tools platform throughout and uses Dynaudio Air 20 monitoring in its main dubbings theatres. Its spacious Studio One has a large vocal booth that can accommodate up to eight actors for film animation projects, while Studio Two is equipped for Dolby Digital so that it can target the trailers and commercials markets.
“The studios look beautiful and the future looks very bright. It provides a real home for us now to develop our fast growing reputation in animation. And with the luxury of these further new studios, we are now in a position to maintain and develop our extensive experience in audio post and sound design for television, film and advertising.”
