Upcoming ITV Three-Parter Shot On Super16

Kodak has announced details of "Torn", a new three-part psychological drama from TX TV, due to be screened on the ITV network as part of the autumn schedule.
Written by Chris Lang and directed by Sarah Harding (who has helmed episodes of Lewis, Poirot and Queer as Folk), Torn is the tale of a young girl who is abducted as a child and grows up thinking that her abductor is her real mother. That is, until her actual mother tracks her down.
The ensuing drama and understandable conflict which looks set to tear the characters apart - and from which the production takes its name - develops over three hour-long episodes. It has been captured on Kodak stock and was shot by DoP Dominic Clemence using an Arri SR3 Super16 film camera.
Producer Jeremy Gwilt said that he is "thrilled with the results" and cited a number of reasons for shooting the production on Super16, covering lighting, latitude and flexibility in the grade, ease of use and speed of set-up.
"Given the choice I think I'd always want to shoot film," he said. "I love its colour palette, its response, the control it gives DoPs and directors, the depth of field, the balance between interior and exterior, the relative lightness of the equipment, and the fact that there aren't huge numbers of cables attached to the camera. It just gives a swiftness of operation and a range of cinematic subtleties that HD is doing brilliantly to emulate, but it has a little tiny way to go yet before it's as good."
