Professor David Crawford To Chair IBC 2007 Conference

IBC has announced the appointment of Professor David Crawford as Chairman of the IBC2007 Conference Committee.
Crawford has been actively involved in the IBC Conference for many years, both as Chairman of the Technical Papers Committee and also as a key member of the organising committee. David has a wide range of experience embracing both the academic and business arms of the industry.
He has the degrees of BA (Hons), MSc in Telecommunications and PhD in Image Coding, and is a Professor at Essex University with interests in mobile and broadband networks. He is a Fellow of the IET, and is active in various international Standards and Industrial Forums in Europe and the USA. He has led Technical Work Groups for the DVB Project on digital broadcast services to mobile terminals and spectrum issues.
Crawford has held senior posts with several blue chip companies including British Telecom in the UK and Bell Labs in the USA where he worked on HDTV transmission systems. From 2003 to 2005 he was Managing Director of Harris Corporations European Broadcast Operations. Currently he divides his time between working in industry in France, as a Director of TeamCast, and in academia in the UK.
"The IBC Conference is world renowned for its comprehensive coverage of technology, business and production issues across the whole industry of content creation management and delivery. I believe my primary role is to ensure that IBC continues to provide a comprehensive peer reviewed conference of the highest quality. I look forward to working with all the contributors to IBC in meeting the opportunities that lie ahead," said Professor Crawford.
Mike Martin, Chairman of IBCs Executive Board said: "Davids wider experience and contacts will help us ensure that IBC continues to lead the industry by producing an authoritative and informative International Conference of the highest quality which will be valued by all IBC attendees.
IBC offers their thanks to Martin Salter who steps down from the Chairmans role this year. Martin has skilfully ensured that the IBC Conference evolved from its roots in terrestrial broadcasting to cover hot topics as diverse as D-cinema, HDTV, media on the move, multimedia in the home and IPTV. I am pleased to say that Martin will still be involved in the 2007 IBC Conference and will be looking to build our support in Asia and Eastern Europe including Russia."
