Gearing Up For Broadcast LIVE

With NAB finally out of everyone’s systems, it is now time to gear up to Broadcast LIVE 2007, held at Earls Court 2 from 19th – 21st June.
Following the success of last year’s event the show has expanded, with over 200 exhibitors attending this year. With the theme of the show centering around Future Proof or Future Shock: the future of multi-platform broadcasting, there has also been a notable increase in the digital TV and IPTV sectors, with many more exhibitors placed in the Deliver area of the show.
Broadcast LIVE offers the unique chance to explore the latest advancements within this fast-moving industry. As well as a headline timetable of influential industry speakers, exhibitors will be reflecting the content chain through the innovative Create, Manage and Deliver zones. Free training sessions will also feature in each area, to give you a first-hand look at a truly tapeless post-production workflow designed and integrated on the exhibition floor.
The conference programme will take place in a purpose built auditorium at the back of the show hall, and focuses on a different topic every day. Tuesday addresses The World of Multimedia Content Creation, Management and Delivery, opening with Stephen Nuttall, Director of Commercial Group BskyB, discussing the realisation of a multi-platform content strategy. The day concludes with a presentation on commercial opportunities for converged content, presented by experienced content director’s such as Jonathan Sikes, Managing Director of Content Strategy at Tiscali and Julia Jordan, Managing Director of business strategy and communications at UKTV.
Wednesday focuses on Maximizing ROI on the New Broadcast Technology Shaping your Business, with a keynote address from Mary Turner, CEO of Tiscali, on waking up to IPTV in the UK: implications for the traditional TV industry. The last session sees HD experts such as Dave Klafkowski, Head of Operations at The Farm and Simon Bohrsmann, General Manager at National Geographic Channel UK, hashing out the HD Debate.
Thursday focuses on Recognising Change, Preparing for the Future, Pre-empting the Market, with speakers in session one, such as Keith Nicholas, Broadcasting Director of MTV Networks Europe and Steve White, Head of Channel Operations at Channel 4 Television, discussing delivery in the new landscape convergence: IT meets broadcast. The final session of the conference outlines upcoming technology and a taste of the future: 10 technologies to watch for, with the panel comprising of industry experts such as Simon Fell, Controller of Emerging Technologies at ITV and Jim Greaves, Director of Business at Sony Europe.
With all this content, plus over 200 exhibitors with a host of new launches of products and services it could be hard to distinguish what to go and look at first. So, here are five things to see at the show to help you out:
  • Apple’s Final Cut Studio 2 launched at NAB;
  • Signiant’s animated feature on their digital media distribution management solutions;
  • Argosy’s live CAT7 demonstration, transmitting video, voice and data over 50 metres, using a single Category 7 cable;
  • The special pod zones dedicated to both IPTV and mobile technologies;
  • HD Make-Up free training sessions on the Create stage everyday from 15.30pm.
