Stockholm's 'sto.pp' Opts For da Vinci's Resolve And Revival for DI Work (HELD)

Full-service creative facility based in Stockholm sto.pp has selected da Vinci's Resolve RT digital mastering suite for real-time image processing in feature films, short films, documentaries, television commercials and promos, music videos, and video finishing applications.
Complementing Resolve RT in the facility's digital intermediate (DI) workflow, sto.pp also purchased da Vinci's Revival restoration system. Revival will handle image repair and cleanup functions such as grain and noise reduction - processes essential to creating pristine images in the DI realm.
"For in-context, real-time 2K-res grading in the increasing nonlinear market, Resolve is the only choice, especially with its ability to work in multiple input formats and resolutions. The shape tracking is excellent, and having a qualifier blur on every vector is the best upgrade from the 2K," said Carl Skaff, colorist at sto.pp. "We like to give our clients the comfort and reliability of an industry-standard brand like da Vinci so the client will feel at home, even in a nonlinear workflow. Resolve delivers optimum speed and flexibility, which translates to increased creativity and faster turnaround time for sto.pp clients. Pasi Johansson, Managing Director at sto.pp, added that the "beauty" of Resolve's data-based workflow is that colorists can integrate with the facility's special effects suites directly from the SAN, without having to sort through tapes individually or transfer material between departments.
Revival gives sto.pp the ability to fix damaged or warped images resulting from scratches, dust particles, dropped pixels, or mishandling. sto.pp also selected Revival to reduce film grain and noise within the DI workflow, thereby relieving its compositing and visual effects tools from the tasks of dust-busting and scratch removal. Now, the sto.pp post-production team can do special effects work and dust-busting simultaneously, increasing overall efficiency.

Resolve's digital mastering suite of tools expands on da Vinci's Emmy Award-winning 2K Plus color enhancement system with program-conforming tools designed specifically for the DI environment. The system's open architecture enables the browsing and selection of image data from a SAN or local storage, allowing multiple colorists to access the material in any order, at any given time. From a single colorist friendly interface, Resolve operators can conform the material, add in-context color enhancement, and produce a conformed master.
Revival is a complete motion picture image-restoration system designed to handle everything from heavy-duty restoration to digital remastering.
The system offers complete functionality, including deFlicker, dust, stain, blotch, dirt, grain, and noise removal. An automatic mode analyzes and processes images without operator assistance, while Revival's interactive mode enables manual restoration of individual sequences, allowing operators to achieve the highest-quality result at optimized speed.
