Direct Access For New Filmmakers To View Production Process

The Directors Guild Trust has joined forces with Film4 and Skillset to launch Direct Access, enabling new filmmakers to observe established directors up-close during key stages in the production process.
Direct Access is now looking for applicants to apply before Wednesday December 20 to be eligible to participate.
Participants will be given unrivalled access to the heart of a UK film shoot to observe all aspects of the film from the inside gaining extensive knowledge of the craft.
Entrants will be able to get unprecedented access to some of the UK's top filmmakers through Direct Access, putting them right next to top talent and gain invaluable experience from those for whom filmmaking has become second nature. They will see the director work with the actors and crew, participate in bespoke tailored events with industry heavyweights and be offered further training and networking opportunities by the Directors Guild and Film4.
Established filmmakers believe the importance of Direct Access in enabling filmmakers to penetrate the inner workings of a major production is vital for the growth of British talent and have given the project glowing endorsements.
Shakespeare in Love director John Madden, Sir Richard Eyre, David Yates, Mike Hodges and Philip Noyce are just a handful of directors who have all endorsed this extraordinary opportunity.
Direct Access is supported by the Skillset Film Skills Fund as part of A Bigger Future, the UK Film Skills Strategy. The fund is made up of industry investment and lottery money via the UK Film Council.
The programme will run throughout 2007. Financial support will be available to all participants to assist with expenses throughout the placement.
