ITC REVOKES BABYLON BLUE'S LICENCE

THE INDEPENDENT Television Commission (ITC) has revoked the licence of satellite channel Babylon Blue, which is owned by Rolldale Ltd, with immediate effect.
The revocation notice follows non-payment of a £10,000 financial penalty imposed by the Commission on the channel in March this year for breaches of the ITC Programme Code in a film, ‘The Black Tie Affair’.
The ITC advised the licensee on a number of occasions that material transmitted was not being satisfactorily edited and that the service was clearly accessible by satellite without any special prescription or other specific choice.
However, ‘The Black Tie Affair’ was broadcast despite a warning that any further breach of the licence would attract a financial penalty.
The licensee was given 28 days to pay the financial penalty and, when it failed to do so was given a further period to remedy this failure.
As payment was still not made, the Commission concluded that revocation of the licence was in the public interest.
