da Vinci’s Resolve selected by Screen Time Classics

da Vinci Systems, the industry-leading provider of colour enhancement and image restoration products, has announced that Screen Time Classics, a new film-distribution label and post-production company in Schaumburg, Ill., has purchased the Resolve FX mastering suite for its newly opened, 30,000 square-foot facility.
Screen Time Classics will use Resolve FX to handle the restoration and mastering needs for high resolution film scans of classic movie titles and TV shows for presentation in HD.
da Vinci’s Resolve FX mastering suite enables colourists at Screen Time Classics, long-familiar with the traditional linear telecine suite, to adapt easily to a nonlinear workflow, 4K resolution, and enhanced creative colour tools that Resolve offers beyond previous- generation systems. Vintage movie titles restored and released by Screen Time Classics will receive the finest treatment in preparation for release, afforded by in-house facilities and made possible by the da Vinci solution.
“Resolve is at the center of our company’s workflow, and it enables minimal handling of fragile film elements by performing calibrated, high-resolution 4K scans to disk, then providing the full range of the latest da Vinci tools, including Revival restoration, in a shared, nonlinear environment,” said Sean McKee, co-founder of Screen Time Classics. “After evaluating numerous systems, we were most impressed with the Resolve system’s capabilities, workflow, performance, familiarity, and forward thinking design.”
Screen Time Classics’ mission is to provide the future of quality family entertainment to consumers via movies and television content on HD-DVD/Blu-Ray, as well as HD satellite/cable networks and emerging streaming technologies. Titles will contain bonus interactive content, taking full advantage of the new HD consumer formats. Several lines of titles are currently being developed for distribution, with the first releases being AMC-HD, created in conjunction with American Movie Classics and radio and TV producer, Carl Amari.
“HD consumers are used to viewing amazing images from channels such as Discovery HD, and we expect that the new HD disc releases of classic films will have the same great look,” added McKee. “We aim to preserve and present the world’s greatest classic films with such quality as to allow viewers to experience the titles in never-before-seen detail, exactly as the directors envisioned, without defects interfering with the experience.”
Screen Time Classics is one of the only independent labels fully equipped to develop product in-house, drawing from the combined services offered by parent companies b|media and Screen Time Images, such as HD, 2K, and 4K telecine scanning with LiquiDefinition wet gate, restoration, audio, DVD/HD-DVD authoring, motion graphics and package design, Web site/interactive multimedia, as well as licensing and acquisitions.
“Screen Time Classics has made a very smart choice in selecting such a powerful product for its film and movie remastering needs, and our Resolve system will bring colorists the exceptional flexibility and performance they desire,” said Jim Mackrell, Product Manager at da Vinci. “With the entire family of Resolve products, we have fully integrated our industry-standard color enhancement toolset with nonlinear conforming tools to improve workflow efficiency for exactly this type of digital intermediate environment.”
