Metropolis Post goes HD with eQ

Metropolis Post has taken delivery of an eQ editing/effects/grading/mastering system for its post production facility.
The system is a full-on HD version with 180 minutes of HD workspace and is configured with the QColor in-context grading package.
Metropolis Director Julian Sabath said: “We chose the eQ because it is the system that best serves our needs. The eQ is a highly sophisticated machine which will bring many cost and quality benefits to our clients. It gives us top-end grading and compositing in-house and most obviously, we can offer HD which we previously had to turn away. One major client having shot a concert on HD even agreed to delay the deadline until we had installed the eQ, which helps confirm we have made the right decision to buy Quantel.”
Sabath is a 22-year veteran of the pop promo world, in fact Bonnie Tyler’s ‘Total Eclipse of the Heart’ was one of the first videos to be edited at Metropolis. Despite its roots in pop promos, Metropolis’ work today covers a broad spectrum. Five years ago they moved from Neal’s Yard to their spacious facility just by Bedford Square which houses 7 edit suites - one with its own terrace - and a beautiful courtyard garden, perfect for clients to relax in during breaks.
Director Guy Morley added: “We have been finding our clients are demanding more high-end finishing. With the eQ we can now offer the effects and color work that they require. It also gives us the ability to mix formats - HD and SD, PAL and NTSC - in any project, and to complete in any of these formats. Up to now this has been a problem.”
Morley continued: “People shoot anything from DV up to HD and it has to look as good as possible. Grading is key, and doing it well can make any format look out of this world which is where QColor really comes into its own. Many people in the music industry like to have that perfect look, almost other-worldly; we anticipate being asked to do much more beauty work in the future and the eQ simply excels in this area.”
