Land Rover G4 Challenge passes half-way stage

Following an event-filled two weeks in Thailand and Laos, the Challenge has now passed the critical half-way point with the Russian competitor leading the pack.
On Sunday May 7, the second half of the global Challenge began in Rio de Janeiro’s iconic Copacabana Beach and will conclude in the Bolivian mountains.
UK production company BHP Sport is using the world’s only disc-based High Definition (HD) cameras record the challenge and deliver regular Video News Releases, bulletins and programmes for a series that will be broadcast around the world, including on Channel 4, M6 (France), ESPN and OLN as well as other international news wires.
So far, there’s been plenty for Sony XDCAM HD cameras to capture. In week two, activities ranged from collecting heavy equipment including a Range Rover Sport tyre from various points along the Mekong River’s sprawling sand flats, to designing and making a winch and pulley system to lift a tree trunk.
The crew continued their journey with the competitors through vast cathedrals of rock, kayaking behind a river damn and 4x4 driving up steep inclines. Stage 2 reached a gripping conclusion with France and South Africa neck-and-neck for first place until the South African challenger inched ahead at the finish.
Rio marks the start of Stage 3 of the Land Rover G4 Challenge. Competitors traversed the globe to South America and the world-famous Brazilian glamour and energy that is found on Copacabana beach in Rio de Janeiro. Having sampled the samba lifestyle, the ultimate destination is Bolivia - a rugged and beautiful land that will take the Challenge upwards into the Andes and through the vast salt plains of Salar de Uyuni to climax at an altitude of over 4000m.
