CHANNEL 4 ANNOUNCE DIGITAL E4 DEAL WITH NTL

CHANNEL 4 and NTL have signed a three-year distribution deal that will see Channel 4’s digital entertainment channel, E4, included in NTL’s digitalplus line up.
When E4 launches in January 2001, it will run daily from 4pm to 4am and will be characterised by a line up of first run shows including ‘ER’, ‘Friends’, ‘Sex and the City’, and ‘Soprano’s’.
Channel 4’s Chief Executive, Michael Jackson, said: “For an innovative and distinctive broadcaster like Channel 4, digital television offers new and exciting opportunities. This is a great chance to build on our reputation, find new ways to showcase talent and in the increasingly multi-channel environment, ensure Channel 4 remains at the cutting edge of British Broadcasting.”
Negotiations with a number of companies to secure distribution for E4 have been ongoing for the last six months. NTL anticipates a total of 500,000 digital subscribers by the end of this year.
