E4 Wins Channel of the Year

E4 has scooped the coveted Channel of the Year prize at the Broadcast Awards 2011, beating off competition from the likes of terrestrials BBC1, ITV1 and Channel 4.
The multi channel broadcaster - which is Channel 4's digital TV stable mate - has also been celebrating its 10th anniversary in its most successful year to date.
E4 is now available on Sky, Virgin Media, ntl, Telewest and Freeview and in 2010 it commanded an audience share of 1.8% and 4.4% of 16 to 34-year-olds, handing the channel its most successful year so far which attracted 2.6 million viewers.
The third series of The Inbetweeners, which peaked with 4.1 million viewers, was E4's biggest audience to date.
The entertainment channel also carries a mix of trend-setting British programming such Skins and Misfits, alongside US imports including Friends, The Sopranos and One Tree Hill.
E4 launched on Sky Digital and Cable (NTL & Telewest) on 18 January 2001, as the new digital channel from Channel 4, dedicated to entertainment with a 2pm to 4am daily schedule.
The channel joined the Top Up TV line-up in March 2004 and became free-to-air in May 2005 when it launched on Freeview.
