Next stop Inverness for Scottish Screen CEO
Ken Hay, the new head of Scottish Screen, will be in Inverness on Tuesday 9 and Wednesday 10 of August, as part of his fact finding tour on behalf of Scotland’s screen industries.
During a packed two days he will meet with representatives from councils across the Highlands and Islands, including Shetland, Argyll and the Western Isles, as well as members of the Gaelic Media Service and the independent production sector.
Speaking ahead of the visit, Ken Hay said: “There has been a perception that Scottish Screen is a Glasgow-centric and film production only agency. I am keen to dispel that impression, but first I have to see for myself what is happening around the country. The Highlands and Islands are rightly famous for both their scenery and hospitality, but there is also a small but vibrant screen industry sector and I need to understand their ambitions and development needs. This is part of the listening process I have embarked on across Scotland that will inform Scottish Screen’s direction over the next few years. With the advent of digital production, distribution and consumption, the traditional world of film and television is changing fast and it is Scottish Screen’s job to lead the way. One of the key aspects of the new digital world is that you no longer have to live in Edinburgh or Glasgow if you want to pursue a career in the screen industries. I am greatly looking forward to discussing this further with representatives from local councils, the independent production sector, the Gaelic Media Service and others.”
Ken Hay will be at the Council Chamber in Inverness on Tuesday at 2.00 pm for an open meeting with members of the screen industries, councillors and officials from the Highlands and Islands area.
