ROOT6 GETS THE BOX ON AIR

EMAP owned interactive music television channel, The Box, are relocating from Kensington to new studios within the Performance Network’s Winsley Street headquarters.
The move entails the creation of an all-digital environment with four new Avid-based editing suites all running on a Unity Network configured and supplied through Premier Re-seller root6.
The new installation, now up and running, handles the digital output of three channels, The Box, Kiss TV and QTV.
Alan Rawlings, Facility Manager at The Box, said: “This move represents the next stage for us as we move into digital broadcasting. The productivity advantages are obvious and will be of invaluable assistance in our planned future channel launches.”
Suppliers of the three Avid Media Composers and the Avid DS, root6, all running on the NT platform, have worked closely with The Box and installers IPK to manage the move and ensure that the broadcaster’s transition to the Unity Network is a smooth one with no disruption to the 24-hour schedule.
The Box is now the most-watched music television channel in the UK, according to BARB figures and in addition to its mainstream output of viewer-selected pop music, the new facility is responsible for the creation of a number of weekly chart and artist-related programmes. (CD)
