TELE-CINE ACQUIRES VIRAGE VIDEO LOGGER

LEADING post-production facility, Tele-Cine, have further invested in their encoding and compression department with the acquisition of a Video Logger software application from Virage.
The new software is a key element in providing indexing to encoded video clips used for streaming across the Internet. Tele-Cine's first client for this new facility is the on-line footage library start-up company, Clipsalesnow.com.
Clipsalesnow.com provides an internet-based platform for the representation of independent producers and broadcasters video assets. The service will allow Clipsalesnow.com clients to exploit their archives by allowing researchers immediate access to desktop-viewable content - a process that would take several days through traditional videotape delivery.
Tele-Cine's Head of Communications and Compression, Mark Slaughter said: “Almost universally, clients like Clipsalesnow.com are looking to us to provide solutions for internet streaming, and our investment in the Virage product demonstrates our strong desire to continue to exceed their expectations”
Along with their encoding and compression expertise, Tele-Cine are providing library and fulfilment services based on the scale of its operation and proven track record in the broadcast and music industries.
Prior to the video logging stage, Tele-Cine encodes material using in-house developed bespoke software to enable MPEG batch encoding of multiple clips each day from digital master tapes.
Video clips are processed through the Video Logger and include data such as critical search data, key words, link timecodes, master tape references, along with the metadata file that accompanies each video clip.
Once an order has been made via the Clipsalesnow.com website, Tele-Cine can link the requested item with the same clip on the master tape which will be held in their central London library. Tele-Cine's 24-hour communications and duplication facility will then ensure that the broadcast copy can be quickly distributed on videotape or via satellite playout. (CMcL)
