               SCOTTISH SCREEN ANNOUNCE STUDENT COMPETITION
SCOTTISH Screen have announced that the ‘Scottish Students on Screen’ event will be held this year in Dundee Contemporary Arts on March 23 to 24 2001.
Now in its second year, Scottish Students on Screen aims to help foster the links between the screen industries, colleges and universities. Students' work is screened, awards are presented to the best entries, and a wide variety of careers sessions, debates, presentations, masterclasses and demonstrations make this the key forum for education and industry to meet.
Organisers say that over 90 entries were received from students across Scotland in the five categories: Animation, Drama, No Boundaries, Factual, and Other. The best of these, chosen by juries of industry professionals, lecturers and students, will be screened several times and a special awards ceremony will provide the climax to the event.
The success of last year's event has attracted considerable interest and support, most notably a three-year commitment from Digital Animations Group, a cutting edge company aiming to drive animation art and technology forward. With substantial support from other companies and educational bodies, the project should grow and develop over the coming years.
As well as a string of carefully focused careers sessions the event includes debates, presentations and demonstrations led by top industry and education professionals. (GB)
